How to Craft the Medallion of the Deep in Old School RuneScape
Dec-08-2025 PSTThe Medallion of the Deep is one of the most useful underwater tools in Old School RuneScape’s Sailing content. Once assembled, it allows you to dive beneath the surface without needing to wear your standard diving gear-with the exception of Fossil Island seaweed runs, where the medallion does not apply. Beyond everyday convenience, this item is required for a Master Clue Scroll step, making it a valuable upgrade for all clue hunters. While creating the medallion isn’t difficult, it does require gathering eight separate fragments scattered across the archipelago, though players who don’t want to spend hours searching can always choose to buy OSRS gold to fund their adventures and streamline the process. This guide walks you through every requirement, every island, and every action you need to complete to assemble your medallion from scratch.
Requirements and Recommended Items
Before you begin, make sure you meet the following skill requirements:
· 63 Sailing (minimum required to access all islands)
· 50 Thieving (required for one of the fragments)
· 35 Woodcutting (for chopping teak)
· 40 Sailing and 33 Thieving (for early chests)
· Completion of “Freeing Pirate Pete” from Recipe for Disaster (required for one fragment)
It’s also recommended to bring:
· Lockpick – to make chest thieving faster
· Coins – for charter ships and sailing expenses
· Axe – to chop teak trees
· Any edible berry – needed for the raccoon event
· A weapon (optional) – for killing pirates
· Teleportation runes – for movement between ports
· Diving gear – for underwater exploration
· Sailor’s Amulet – to access Pandemonium, where the final assembly step is completed
You must also obtain and read the Waterlogged Journal on Pandemonium before you can assemble the final medallion.
Fragment Locations and How to Obtain Them
1. Rusty Chest – Dog Nohs Island
Teleport to Pandemonium, take your boat south to Dog Nohs Island (requires 40 Sailing).
Picklock the rusty chest using your lockpick to receive the first fragment.
2. Coral Nursery – The Great Conch (Underwater)
Travel to the Great Conch via charter ship, then take the rowboat on the eastern shore.
Equip your diving gear and dive.
Head west until you find a large coral-covered rock. Investigate it to obtain fragment two.
3. Pirate Pickpocket/Kill – Onyx Crest Island
Sail from the Great Conch to the nearby Onyx Crest (requires 47 Sailing).
Here you must pickpocket or kill pirates. The drop rate is roughly 1/6.
Pickpocketing first increases your success chance.
4. Silver Stall – Port Roberts
During your travels, stop at Port Roberts.
Simply steal from the silver stall to obtain this guaranteed fragment. Be mindful not to get caught.
5. Raccoon and Berry – Vatraos Island
From Port Roberts, sail south to Vatraos.
Locate the raccoon near the trees and use an edible berry on it.
The raccoon hands you another medallion fragment.
6. Chop a Teak Tree – Shimmering Atoll
From Vatraos, sail to Shimmering Atoll (49 Sailing required).
Circle the island until you reach the teak trees.
Chop one and you’ll receive fragment six.
7. Green Cauldron – Isle of Bones
Teleport to Pest Control, summon your boat, and sail west to the Isle of Bones.
Investigate the green cauldron, and it will reward you with fragment seven.
8. Crab Monument – Winumber Island
West of the Isle of Bones, sail to Winumber Island.
Crabs will attack you-ignore or defeat them.
Investigate or "chart" the crab monument to receive the final fragment and unlock the Crab Dance emote.
Final Step: Reading the Waterlogged Journal and Assembly
Travel back to Pandemonium, enter the bar, and search the crate near the counter.
You will uncover an Incredibly Waterlogged Journal.
Read all five entries to unlock the ability to assemble the medallion.
After reading it, use your fragments together to craft the Medallion of the Deep and gain Crafting XP.
Using the Medallion
Equip the medallion and head to any underwater location-such as the Coral Nurseries-and you’ll be able to dive without wearing your gear. This is extremely helpful for Sailing progression, coral planting, and clue scrolls.
With all eight pieces collected and the journal read, you now have one of the most convenient underwater tools in the game. Enjoy the freedom of diving without gear, streamline your Sailing tasks, and stay efficient on your adventures-especially if you’re grinding for clues or saving up for upgrades without relying on cheap RS gold-and good luck on future Master clues!
